Do you love working closely with words: analysing whether a comma is in the correct place; tweaking prepositions to be more contextually appropriate; improving the flow, rhythm and readability of someone’s writing? We may have the perfect role for you.
BRIGHT is seeking a passionate and versatile full-time junior sub editor to work across our portfolio of magazines and commercial projects. You will be part of a small team in a fast-moving multimedia environment, with the opportunity to hone an assortment of editorial skills. Reporting to the chief sub editor, genres covered include media technology, filmmaking, photography and lifestyle.
Experience in magazines, newspapers or a publishing environment would be preferable, but not essential. Most crucial will be a painstaking attention to detail with the ability to exhaustively spot spelling, grammar and factual errors, as well as the confidence to rewrite content in quick time and turn your hand to a multitude of copy-editing tasks.
Managing competing priorities and organising a busy workload while remaining cool under pressure will be vital – as will collaborating clearly and effectively with various departments, including editorial, design and sales.
Your role:
- Maintaining the accuracy, consistency and integrity of editorial and commercial written content
- Sub editing print and online media to agreed house styles
- Attending production meetings and collaborating with editors to maintain copy flow
- Editing newsletters and scheduling send-out
- Proofing pages to internal and external stakeholders and liaising to approve copy
- Undertaking a range of digital tasks relating to the online versions of magazines
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign is desirable, but full training will be provided.
This is a hybrid role with flexible hours based in our Sawston, Cambridgeshire office from Tuesdays to Thursdays, with remote working available on Mondays and Fridays.
