BRIGHT is seeking a meticulous, highly organised full-time senior sub editor to work on the agency side of the business. As the go-to editor for our key commercial clients, including FUJIFILM US and UK accounts, you will need to get to grips with a detailed, technical style guide in short order. All commercial written work will go through you for careful style checks, with a particular focus on guaranteeing accurate specifications.
At least three years of experience in an editorial environment is essential, while an understanding of photography and/or filmmaking is desirable. Most crucial will be a painstaking attention to detail, with an enviable, demonstrable ability to exhaustively spot spelling, grammar, factual and technical errors, as well as the confidence to rewrite copy to the required standard in quick time. Managing competing priorities and organising a busy workload while remaining cool under pressure will be vital – as will collaborating clearly and effectively with various departments, including editorial, design, digital and accounts.
Your role:
- Maintain the accuracy, consistency and integrity of all commercial written content.
- Sub edit a variety of print and digital media to a strict house style.
- Become the authority on style concerns for all commercial clients, especially FUJIFILM US and UK, with an ability to discern between necessary spelling and grammar differences for both audiences.
- Manage the style sheets for key accounts, working with the chief sub editor and wider editorial team to adapt and strengthen these as necessary.
- Attend regular meetings with the editorial director to discuss the editorial pipeline, raise queries and troubleshoot problems.
- Work closely with the chief sub editor to ensure best practices are rigorously followed and the editorial standard is consistently pushed higher.
- As a senior member of the sub editing team, you will advise more junior colleagues on their work, provide editorial checks and contribute to a close-knit team environment.
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office applications is also expected, while experience with Figma would be useful but not essential. This is a hybrid role with flexible hours based in our Sawston, Cambridgeshire office from Tuesdays to Thursdays, with remote working available on Mondays and Fridays.
Please send a CV and covering letter to [email protected].
